This week I will be presenting at the Eighth International Graphic Novel and Comics Conference, happening right here in Dundee (and Glasgow), Scotland. The theme this year is "Borders: Identity, Difference, Representation", and I will be presenting a paper that deals with the limits between autobiography and fiction in comics (though I will be bringing up other artforms as examples). The two comics I will be looking at more in dept are Craig Thompson's Blankets and Adrian Tomine's Shortcomings, as examples of autobiography and autobiographical fiction, respectively.
In addition to that, I will be chairing two panels on Latin American comics, a topic I'm ashamed to say I know very little of, apart from Brazilian comics, of course. This will be a great opportunity to learn more about it, which I'm looking forward to doing.
